uniquely delicious snacking for today's health conscious consumer

OUR FAMILY

Ensconced in the family’s Colorado cabin located on Cooper Street, Michigan mom, Elaine Surnow, found a generations-old family cookie recipe and began to bake. Unsatisfied with all the big-company, junk-filled alternatives, and unwilling to compromise on taste, she was determined to build a better cookie for family & friends. Using only simple & pure local ingredients and with love and attention to every detail, Elaine baked and sliced and baked again to create a delightfully crisp and light cookie that became an instant holiday smash.

Today, Elaine’s original recipe based on quality ingredients with no nuts, no dairy and nothing artificial is delighting cookie lovers of all ages. With just the right combination of delicate sweetness, light crunch and old-fashioned goodness, Cooper Street Cookies are the perfect accompaniment to your favorite beverage or an indulgent anytime snack without the guilt.

As the head of a woman-owned business

Elaine realized early on that her personality and drive would be an integral part of growing a cookie business in such a competitive marketplace. Loading up the family car every day and heading out to conduct product demonstrations has become a way of life. Perseverance and determination have paid off as our little cookie company has grown from a local & regional bakery into a national supplier of delicious, better-for-you cookies and snacks. Imbued with that same hard work ethic and indominable spirit, sons Max and Sam also joined the business early on to make this a true family enterprise. With the credo that “A family that works together, wins together,” the entire Surnow clan is now sharing the family recipe (and the smiles!) one delectable cookie at a time.

Cooper Street began with a delicious & on-trend recipe
providing an opportunity for the family to work
together to build a company capable of making a
difference in the local and area community.

Our bakery hires through Jewish Vocational Services (JVS) providing jobs and skill-training to individuals with special needs and underemployed area job seekers. JVS was founded in Detroit in 1941 to help people meet life-challenges affecting their self-sufficiency through counseling, training and support services with the steadfast belief that the best way to help people is to make it possible for them to help themselves. The program has been a tremendous success and today our Cooper Street bakery is filled with JVS and other area employees who are learning a tradecraft and participating in the community.

giving back

The cookie business is all about sharing the smiles, and kids’ smiles are simply the best. There is nothing more inspiring than to see a youngster’s satisfied grin after a few Cooper Street cookies. Our mission from the beginning was to leverage the family business as an opportunity to give back to the community in every way possible. One of the most heartwarming and gratifying ways that we have created to reach as many children as possible is through our Cooper Street Kids charitable organization.

The idea is simple—we collect donations to purchase themed, gift-wrapped cookie presents for distribution to sick kids at local Children’s Hospitals. Virtually 100% of the donated proceeds go directly to benefitting the kids. And since all Cooper Street products are guaranteed Nut Free, Dairy Free and contain No Artificial Ingredients, our cookies are entirely hospital-friendly and provide a healthy alternative to traditional treats. Scheduled around major holidays, Cooper Street Kids is a delicious and rewarding way to brighten the day at area hospitals throughout the year.
